Storing Samples

We’ve talked about how we process samples, but we are also often asked how we store them while they are with our lab in Crewe.

Samples that do not require strict storage conditions are simply held in our prep lab in the sample storage area. Depending on material requirements, other storage options we offer include:

  • Refrigeration: To maintain temperature stability – mainly for water samples.
  • Freezing: If samples arrive frozen, they are kept in the freezer until analysis. We avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles as it can alter isotopic composition.
  • Quarantine: Locked in a secure cupboard in accordance with our quarantine licence.
  • Highly enriched samples: These are sealed in containers to prevent cross-contamination with other batches.
