Pyrolysis System

Having the right equipment is key for a lab like ours, and supplementing our mass spectrometers, elemental analysers and gas samplers, Isolab Scientific uses a dedicated pyrolysis system to support projects that involve challenging sample types such as feathers, collagen, claws and other keratin‑rich tissues.

Pyrolysis allows us to convert these materials into simple gases at high temperature, making accurate δ²H and δ¹⁸O analysis possible even when traditional preparation routes aren’t suitable.

It’s a powerful tool for ecological, forensic and archaeological studies where these tissues hold long‑term chemical records.

Most recently, we applied this capability to muscle tissue samples for a research project with University College Dublin, contributing to a newly published paper entitled “Discrimination of beef production system and regional geography by multivariate analysis of stable isotope ratios (C, N, S, O, H)”, which you can read here.

There are plenty more reasons to work with us. If your operation is looking for a commercial partner for a long term relationship or collaboration, just email sales@isolab-scientific.com, we’ll be happy to talk!
