15N Analysis

15N analysis can be applied to agriculture & environment, forensic science, and ecology. The lab team at Isolab Scientific regularly receive samples such as soils, collagen, plants, seeds, animal feed, from around the world.

15N analysis refers to the study of nitrogen-15 (15N), a stable isotope of nitrogen, in various samples. The results of analysis are used in diverse fields like ecology, agriculture, and medicine to understand nitrogen cycling, nutrient uptake as well as metabolic pathways. It involves measuring the ratio of 15N to the more abundant nitrogen-14 (14N) to gain insights into these processes.

The sample being weighed out from the foil in this photo is a soil sample for 15N analysis. The sample will be ground to a powder before weighing and analysing on an EA-IRMS.
